Feng Shui Office Design – Using a Zen Color Palate

Feng shui was developed over 1,000 years ago in China and has informed philosophical, architectural and interior design decisions ever since. When the five elements of the ancient art work together it is said that you will have a good fortune (and one can never have enough good fortune in business). That’s why so many businesses have turned to feng shui office design in an effort to improve their future prospects.

Feng Shui Office Design Explained In Color

One of the easiest ways to master feng shui design is through the use of color; color that starts with a can of paint. So, if your office is too dark or looks like a medical facility (and you don’t want it to), then you may want to check out the feng shui colors below.

1. White

White is clean and, in feng shui, represents the metal element associated with purity and innocence. Unless you operate a medical office you will want to avoid using white as your primary color, but it can be extremely effective as a chic accent.

2. Yellow

Representative of one of the Earth elements (in this case the sun), yellow has the power to improve both employee health and happiness. More mild forms of the color may be used as a wall color while more potent versions may be best suited as accent pieces (such as a vase).

3. Green

If you’ve ever gone on a hike, or spent long hours in the garden then you have probably experienced the soothing power of green. It represents the wood element and has the power to heal and reinvigorate your team.

4. Blue

While green reinvigorates and heals, blue calms and soothes and has the power to turn your office into an embodiment of Zen. It also represents the water element and will bring the blue possibilities of the sky into your place of work.

5. Pink

Don’t knock it before you try it. Representative of the fire element, pink can make your feng shui office energetic and lively. It can be a little potent at times, but used in accents (like flowers) pink can provide your employees with the energy they need to make it through their day.

6. Purple

In moderation purple, (another fire element) can improve mood and energy in your feng shui office. Just remember, it’s best used as an accent and not your main color.

These feng shui office colors should help you refine and master the color design fundamentals you need to make the most of your workplace. The five elements of feng shui (fire, earth, water, metal and wood) will inform your decisions and will be realized by your color choices. Choices that will reflect both your personal style and the goals for your business when you decide on your next commercial property.
