Matthew Smith is a graduate of St. John’s University College of Business Administration, Jamaica, New York, with a B.S. Degree in Business Management. He is an active member of the Appraisal Institute, keeping current with market trends by attending seminars, meetings and lectures. Mr. Smith has been engaged in the real estate industry since 1983.
Mr. Smith’s appraisal experience and involvement encompasses over 25 states with concentrated expertise in the New York Metropolitan and Long Island (Nassau/Suffolk) areas. Various property types he has appraised include single family residences, apartment buildings, schools, temples, churches, shopping centers, office complexes, congregate care facilities, campgrounds, golf courses, industrial buildings and cooperative or condominium conversions.
He is Past President of the Long Island Chapter of The Appraisal Institute, and Past Regional Chair of the Appraisal Institute. Mr. Smith is also recognized and qualified in multiple courts as an “Expert Witness” in real estate.
Mr. Smith is the Broker of Record for Smith & DeGroat Real Estate and the President of Standard Valuation Services. To support his dedication to professional excellence, Mr. Smith has received both the SRA and MAI designations. He has twice served as Chair of the NY State Board of Real Estate Appraisal.
